Formerly, this flag represented District 8, International Order of the Blue
Gavel, but due to an internal split in the International Order of the Blue
Gavel, the flag now represents the Florida Commodores Association, a group which
was formerly District 8, IOBG. The International Order of the Blue Gavel has taken the position that it
does not permit flags for its member districts.

The heraldry
of the flag is simple and straightforward: past commodores of yacht clubs wear
three silver stars as their insignia of office; the outline of the State of
Florida speaks for itself. (Incidentally, current commodores wear three gold
stars.) District 8 of the I.O.B.G. is sometimes informally called the "Florida
Commodores" for obvious reasons.
